The Impact Assessment Roadmap for New Nuclear Projects

Abstract

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is developing a guide to meet the joint requirements of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) and Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) to support a public interest determination and issuance of a Licence to Prepare Site (LTPS) for a new nuclear power plant in Canada.

This guide, titled the Impact Assessment Roadmap, includes an overview of the regulatory approval process as well as the full set of technical requirements that must be met to thoroughly evaluate a candidate site. It also describes a planning approach to ensure that these requirements are properly met in an efficient manner to an appropriate quality standard.

The output of the roadmap is an integrated set of plans that cover the full scope of work needed to produce an Impact Statement, which is the primary submission from OPG as the Proponent, for an Impact Assessment (IA) and includes within it the application for a LTPS.
