TRANSFOBOX®: TRANSFORMER REMOTE MONITORING AND DIAGNOSIS

Abstract

Transformers are reliable devices, which play a vital role in the operation of a nuclear power plant. Although transformers only experience approximately one per cent damage per year, per transformer, nuclear operators remain exposed to the risk of possible damage to their equipment.

Over the past 10 years, EDF has implemented TransfoBox®, an all-encompassing transformer remote monitoring and diagnosis tool, on more than 100 assets across the EDF fleet.

This service assists nuclear power plant operators by ensuring transformer availability, optimizing maintenance and reducing outage/downtime rates. This is achieved through transformer default behaviour detection, recommending operation rules until end of life asset replacement and enabling adapted predictive maintenance. This paper will present this service.
