Abstract

Following a potential nuclear accident scenario, it is imperative that the effects on the surrounding environment are safely and promptly assessed. The development of devices that can provide quick, accurate estimates of radioactivity following such scenarios is an active area of research in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection. We present the development of a novel autonomous robotic platform, equipped with radiation detection, mapping, air sampling, and on-board data analysis capabilities to assess and mitigate the effects of potential severe accidents in nuclear power plants and the surrounding environment, as well as to reduce human exposure to radiation. In addition, the current development of a unifying software platform is presented.
