Abstract

SNC-Lavalin has been part of various Condition Assessment programs for Candu 6 Nuclear Power Plants around the world. Condition assessments for the systems, structures and components (SSCs) for Nuclear Power Plants help to ensure the continuation of reliable and safe operation for plants aiming to meet long term operating objectives, including extended service life. Electrical equipment are the backbone of the plant providing power for all plant systems. Continued exposure to service conditions from operation such as, high ambient temperatures, moisture and radiation all have cumulative effects on electrical equipment. Adequate aging management programs have the ability to ensure that electrical equipment does not deteriorate undetected during the service life for the plant. This paper presents an overview of condition assessment activities and selected examples of considerations and criteria to keep electrical equipment in good operating condition.

Condition Assessments for electrical equipment in Nuclear Power Plants have been crucial in identifying gaps in maintenance practices, testing programs and effects of unconsidered aging degradation mechanisms, leading to the development of effective Aging Management Programs.
