Ionic Strength and Ph Dependence of Sorption of Se(-II) Onto Illite, Bentonite, and Shale
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper examines sorption of Se(-II) onto illite, Na-bentonite MX-80, and Queenston shale under anaerobic conditions in Na-Ca-Cl solutions with ionic strengths (I) ranging from 0.1-6 mol/kg(m) and pHm ranging from 4-9. Sorption times of 14 days for illite and MX-80, and 20 days for shale, were found to be sufficient. In general, there was a slight decrease in sorption as ionic strength increased. Sorption was found to decrease with increasing pH for illite and MX-80, but was approximately constant vs pH for shale.
