Abstract

Especially in controversial industry settings, the importance of stakeholder relationships signals a need for greater attention to the role of listening. We use a qualitative approach to learn from women's first-hand experiences of stakeholder listening in a nuclear industry context. Our preliminary analysis from 18 in-depth interviews highlights a variety of stakeholder perspectives on what it means to listen. We further explore the connections between listening and respect, identifying two distinct patterns of non-listening that appear in different contexts.
