Abstract

Susceptibility of Alloy 800 towards stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) was investigated in 50 % NaOH under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions at different electrochemical potentials. The results of SCC experiments performed on Alloy 800 C-rings showed propagation of massive transgranular cracks accompanied by the presence of nanoporosity behind the crack tip. The depth of cracks and degree of porosity formed on the surface depended on the electrochemical potential.
