Verification of Hydrogen Corrosion Probe (HCP) Operability Under Feedwater Chemistry Conditions
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Hydrogen Corrosion Probe (HCP) is an online corrosion-monitoring device that determines the corrosion rate of carbon steel by measuring hydrogen gas accumulation in a closed volume external to the process. This device is a further development of CNER's HEPro sensors and utilizes a new technique based on a Hydrogen Permeation Device (HPD), which comprises a hydrogen permeable membrane to allow a calibrated hydrogen escape from the sensor. Hydrogen accumulation inside a monitored volume was modeled to predict the effects of the size of the HPD and the corrosion rate on the measured pressure. The results will be applied to the design of a lab-scale HCP used to study the effects of flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) under different chemistry conditions and flow velocities.
