Abstract

An overview is provided of the history of USA waste disposition relative to changes in both the environment and the waste-management industry marketplace. It details present handling, processing, and disposition technologies, showing current conditions and options, as well as anticipated changes that will respond to market conditions. Challenges facing generators and disposal companies in the USA are identified, and actions are addressed. Finally, lessons learned and current technologies are applied the challenges facing Canadian radioactive waste generators in order to demonstrate benefits to the Canadian waste-management market.
