Controller Development for the Integration of Small Modular Reactors With Micro-grid Mine Sites
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper investigates the development of a controller for the integration of a SMR with micro-grid mine sites. Many micro-grid mine sites depend on hydrocarbons as a source of power. Recently, interest has grown on these sites to develop sustainable power generation that reduces ecological impact and cost. At the same time, SMR technology has been developed and various countries have produced roadmaps to deploy and operate this technology within a decade. Given the relationship between the two development efforts it is foreseen that the combination of them will require the development of components that allow their integration. A component required is a device capable of controlling the normal and abnormal operation of the different power generation sources and the fluctuating demand from a mine site. Thus, the typical loading of the mines and generators used should be investigated. Once this information is gathered a suitable controller can be proposed.
