End of Life Challenges – Adoption of Innovative Technology to Improve Delivery

Abstract

This paper discusses the role of technology in nuclear decommissioning and waste management. Besides, it provides examples of innovative technologies developed from basic science to applications in challenging projects. Further, the positive impact of such technologies on schedule and cost of decommissioning and waste management projects will also be addressed. In the context of this work, technology resembles a process, plant, system or digital platform, and its application is implementing it in an active project where it exhibits demonstrable benefits over existing baseline technology. Examples of innovative and enabling digital technologies advanced from fundamental research to practical application in decommissioning and waste management projects are also provided.
