Abstract

Following several years of planning and preparation, the Embalse NPP (Córdoba Province, Argentina), was shut down on December 31, 2015 to implement the execution phase of the Life Extension Project. The unit has been successfully defueled, drained and the reactor component replacement activities are advancing well. With this being the third CANDU6 retubing campaign, but the first one in implementing the steam generator replacement (SGR), the devices, processes and planning for the SGR have been developed to minimize impacts in the fuel channel replacement activity. This paper will provide an overview of the Embalse SGR activities with particular emphasis on planning & engineering, and the first of the kind for rigging and handling and fitting process in a CANDU 6 plant. Progress of tasks already implemented up to April 2017 and main challenges faced will also be described.
