Abstract

TThe helium leak rate test failed for Dry Storage Container (DSC) BW5149 at Darlington Waste Management Facility (DWMF) with a leak rate above the required acceptance criteria of 1 x 10-5 std cc/sec in November 2015.  A troubleshooting plan was developed using a Systematic Approach to Problem Solving (SATPS) methodology and is being presented in this paper.  The troubleshooting plan was applied to the DSC in question.  As a last step of the troubleshooting plan, the DSC was pressurized with helium to less than 5 psig, and a helium leak search (sniffing) test was performed, resulting in a successful identification of leakage location.  This is the first time a DSC has been successfully pressurized to identify a leak location.
