Abstract

Metal hydride improvement plays a leading role in the development of hydrogen technology. Metal hydrides are safe and reliable hydrogen storage materials that have the potential to greatly impact the cost and large scale deployment of hydrogen technology. While some metal hydrides have large volumetric hydrogen capacities, they still present some challenges when it comes operating temperatures and reaction kinetics. Neutron diffraction is an essential tool for metal hydrides because it can localize hydrogen atoms in the crystal structure. This presentation will show how and why neutrons are used in the metal hydride field. It will outline the importance of neutron diffraction for the evolution of technology, especially the metal hydride technology.
